WHY Are You Building a Network Marketing Business?

We know that before we do most things, we are motivated by a reason.

We do well in high school to get into college.  We do well in college to get one of the best jobs.  We accept good paying jobs so we can purchase a better home.  We drive a brand new car with all the bells and whistles to impress our friends, family and neighbors.  Reasons are behind nearly everything we do.

Reasons can also be called "Why's".  WHY are you building a network marketing business?

If you don't know your Why, I bet you aren't earning much money.

Without a reason, without a Why, we tend to be less directed, less driven, less consistent, less of everything.

One of my friends "Why's" for building her network business is so that her grand children will have a wealthy grandma!  It's her dream to be able to take her entire family to Disney World, all expenses paid, at least once a year, forever.

I know a couple whose Why was to be able to send all of their eight children to private Christian school.

One retired couple's Why was to earn enough to take a wonder-filled month long vacation every Winter...and pay cash for wherever they stayed and for whatever they wanted to do.

Some "Why's" are to bring Mom home from work... or to bring Mom and Dad home from work... or to create debt free retirement through residual income... or to own a car for each of the four seasons... or to raise horses, or dogs, or show pigeons, or roses. 

Take the time to determine your Why.  Know it like you know your name.  Own it, breathe it, live it.  If you don't know your Why I can almost guarantee that your business will stagnate...until you do.

In Network Marketing We Need To Learn To (Almost) Like Criticism

Nobody likes criticism.  I don't like it and I bet you don't either.

In the network marketing industry, though, we need to learn to like it... well, almost.

What if your telephone testimony has grown into a 10 minute dissertation?  On some level you know it's too long, but you've decided that every word you say has value and needs to be heard.  The fact is, nobody wants to listen to your long testimony.  Somebody needs to tell you...

Suppose you've fallen into the habit of being extremely casual during your business presentations.  Your shirt is wrinkled real often, your jeans missed the last trip to the washer, and your hair could use a trim.  Do you represent yourself and your company in it's best light if you don't look your best?  Somebody needs to tell you...

Do you carry your brochures, print materials, DVD's and applications in an orderly fashion?  If your paper materials are wrinkled and the applications you pull out are dog-eared and a little worse for wear, are your prospects favorably impressed?  Somebody needs to tell you...

We've heard that in network marketing, we are in business for ourselves but not by ourselves.  That support includes upline mentors and astute business partners being willing to criticize you... to tell you what you need to hear.  And, we need to learn to (almost) like hearing about corrections we could make in the presentation of ourselves and our business.

This industry is about growth.  Growth sometimes requires hearing things we don't necessarily want to hear.  Most people aren't thrilled about being corrected, but those who are serious about building strong and thriving network marketing businesses like to be told how to better serve their prospects and business partners.

Next time someone offers criticism, don't get bent out of shape... the information you receive could create the defining change you make to catapult your business to the next level.

A Really Good Idea...Take the Fear Out of "No's"

I was recently visiting with one of my business partners about her fear of rejection.  She had two seemingly qualified prospects back out at the last minute and she was having a hard time getting back on the phone.  We came up with a great idea...

Those of us who have been in the network marketing industry for any time at all know that we DO get paid for "no's", simply by the fact that we wade through them in order to get to the "yeses".  We also have heard that most newbies in our industry will quit after receiving as few as three "no's".  Now, I don't doubt the credibility of that fact, but it does blow my mind!  Three "no's" and they take their ball and go home?  Seems amazing to me, but it's a fact nonetheless.

So, in working with my business partner we created a Club.  This is not my original idea, but I borrowed it and I love it. 

We created the "200 No's Club".

Each person who chooses to participate puts $20. in the "pot".  We have an accountability every week for check in and reporting of the numbers of no's each participant receives.  The first person to receive 200 no's by December 16 receives the majority of the "pot" of money.  If more than 15 people participate, you might consider paying out to the top two or three persons who receive the most no's.  If no one receives 200 no's by December 16, then the money will be donated to a charity.

Of course, the object of "200 No's" is to get "Yeses"!  We know that according to the 80/20 rule, we get a lot more "no's" than "yeses" and the "no's" are the ones that tend to undermine our determination and our confidence.  The "200 No's Club" puts a positive spin on the "no's"... you actually want to get them because you want to be the first one to get 200 of them. In the process, you will likely find some excellent business partners and business builders.  Win-Win, right?
